Ripon Volleyball Battles in Triangular at Lakeland

PLYMOUTH, Wis. -- The Ripon College volleyball team hit the road Saturday for a triangular at Lakeland University, facing host Lakeland first before taking on Elmhurst in non-conference action. Despite strong individual performances, the Red Hawks fell in both matches, dropping to 6-13 on the season.

Game 1

Ripon opened the day against Lakeland, splitting the first two sets, but ultimately falling 3-1 (18-25, 25-19, 10-25, 23-25). Freshman Addi Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis., Wisconsin Lutheran HS) powered the Red Hawks' offense with 14 kills, while sophmores Hannah Michaels (Waukesha, Wis., Waukesha North HS) and Makenna Harren (Rosemount, Minn., Rosemount HS) each added 9. Senior setter Emily Braun (Juneau, Wis., Dodgeland HS) directed the attack with 31 assists and 2 aces, while senior Michaela Riege (Waterloo, Wis., Bryant & Stratton College) added 3 aces and 15 digs. Freshman Bryn Carlson (Green Lake, Wis., Ripon HS) led the back row with 19 digs.

Game 2

In the second match, Ripon again grabbed the second set but came up short in a 3-1 loss to Elmhurst, with set scores of 19-25, 25-21, 20-25, and 16-25. Harren paced the offense with 10 kills, with senior Lainie Heizler (Park Falls, Wis., Chequamegon HS) and junior Haylee Kast (Reedsburg, Wis., Reedsburg Area HS) chipping in 9 and 8 kills, respectively. Braun dished out 19 assists and added 3 service aces, while Riege anchored the defense with 22 digs.

The Red Hawks will now turn their attention to Midwest Conference play, starting with Beloit College on Friday, Oct 3, at 7 pm inside Weiske Gymnasium.
