DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Ripon College men's tennis team fell 7-0 to the University of Dubuque on Saturday morning at the Frank Farber Tennis Courts. The women's team came up short as well, falling 5-2 to the Spartans in a competitive matchup.
Men's Match
Doubles play was competitive early, highlighted by a tight battle at No. 2 where sophomore
Kyle Flook (Sheboygan, Wis., Sheboygan South HS) and junior
Corey Mooney (Greenfield, Wis., Greenfield HS) picked up a 7-5 win for Ripon. Dubuque answered with a 6-0 victory on court one and a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles to take the opening point.
In singles action, Dubuque closed out the match with wins on all six courts. Mooney fought through a first-set tiebreaker at No. 2 before falling 7-6, 6-3, while senior
Caleb Sippel (Appleton, Wis., Appleton North HS) battled at No. 1 but dropped his match 6-3, 6-2.
The men return to action in Waukesha, Wis. to play Edgewood College and Carroll University on Sunday, Sep 14.
Women's Match
In doubles action, senior
Allison Pavlovec (Decorah, Iowa, Decorah HS) and sophomore
Isabella Engstrom (Ripon, Wis., Ripon HS) earned a 6-4 win on court three, while Dubuque claimed victories on courts one and two to take the early 1-0 lead.
Singles play saw senior

(Kimberly, Wis., Kimberly HS) deliver a strong performance at No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-0 win, while Pavlovec picked up another point at No. 6 after a 6-2, 6-7(6), 7-4 battle. Despite their efforts, Ripon came up just short as Dubuque secured wins on courts one, three, four, and five to close out the match.
The women travel on Wednesday, Sep 10, to play UW-Oshkosh at the Kolf Sports Center Outdoor Tennis Courst at 4:30 pm.
