Box Score 2 OWATONNA, Minn. -- The Ripon College women's tennis team delivered a strong showing in Minnesota on Saturday, earning a pair of 4-3 victories over Martin Luther College and Crown College in a competitive day of nonconference action.
Match One
To open the match, sophomore
Josie Rondestvedt (Altoona, Wis., Altoona HS) and junior
Jessi Griepentrog (Freedom, Wis., Fox Valley Lutheran HS) teamed up for a decisive 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. The Red Hawks trailed 0-1 after doubles play but responded in singles competition with four victories to secure the team win.
Rondestvedt led the charge at No. 1 singles, claiming a 6-4, 6-3 straight-set victory. Griepentrog followed with a strong performance at No. 3 singles, earning a 7-5, 6-3 win. Senior
Catherine Skoglund (Roberts, Wis., St. Croix Central HS) was dominant at No. 4 singles, cruising to a 6-1, 6-2 victory, while senior
Allison Pavlovec (Decorah, Iowa, Decorah HS) added another key point with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.
With four singles wins, the Red Hawks sealed the narrow 4-3 team victory to open the day.
Match Two
Ripon once again found itself in a tightly contested matchup in the afternoon, but strong doubles play proved pivotal. The pair of Rondestvedt and Griepentrog earned a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while Skoglund and Pavlovec matched that score at No. 2 doubles to give Ripon a 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
The Red Hawks secured two singles victories to clinch the match. Senior Allison Larson
(Lodi, Wis., Lodi HS) battled back after dropping the first set at No. 2 singles, rallying for a 1-6, 7-5, 10-6 win in a match tiebreak. Skoglund added another point at No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory, and Pavlovec remained steady at No. 5 singles, earning a 6-4, 6-2 win.
With contributions throughout the lineup, Ripon completed the Saturday sweep with back-to-back 4-3 wins, showcasing depth and resilience in a pair of tightly contested matches on the road.
The Red Hawks compete on Sunday, Feb 22, for Senior Day, against Loras College and University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The matches are set to take place at the Ogden YMCA and Valley Tennis Center in Neenah, Wis.
