NEENAH, Wis. -- The Ripon College women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day on Sunday at the Neenah YMCA, competing in a doubleheader against Loras College and UW-Stevens Point. The Red Hawks fell 6-1 to Loras in the afternoon before dropping a 6-1 decision to UW-Stevens Point in the evening match.
Match One
Loras opened the day by sweeping doubles play to claim the early 1-0 advantage. The Red Hawks battled throughout the lineup but were unable to break through in doubles competition.
In singles, senior
Hadley Berendsen (Kimberly, Wis., Kimberly HS) provided the highlight of the match at No. 3 singles. After taking the opening set 6-1, Berendsen regrouped following a second-set loss and dominated the 10-point super tiebreak, 10-7, to secure Ripon's lone point of the contest.
Senior
Allison Pavlovec (Decorah, Iowa, Decorah HS) also forced a third set at No. 6 singles after winning the first set 7-5, but Loras rallied to win the match in a super tiebreak. The Duhawks claimed the remaining singles matches in straight sets to seal the team victory.
Match Two
In the evening matchup, UW-Stevens Point swept doubles play to take control early once again.
Despite the team score, the Red Hawks continued to compete with energy in singles action. Pavlovec delivered a strong performance at No. 6 singles, earning a decisive 6-2, 6-2 victory to account for Ripon's point in the match.
Sophomore
Josie Rondestvedt (Altoona, Wis., Altoona HS), senior Allison Larson
(Lodi, Wis., Lodi HS), Berendsen, junior
Jessi Griepentrog (Freedom, Wis., Fox Valley Lutheran HS), and senior
Catherine Skoglund (Roberts, Wis., St. Croix Central HS) rounded out the singles lineup, facing a deep Pointers squad that entered the match with a 13-3 overall record.
Sunday's matches marked a special Senior Day for the Red Hawks, honoring the leadership and commitment of the program's seniors and their contributions both on and off the court. While the results did not fall in Ripon's favor, the team continues to show resilience as the season moves forward.
For their next matchup, the Red Hawks travel to UW-Eau Claire on Saturday, Feb 28.
