RIPON, Wis. -- Ripon Esports was well represented in the 500-person entrant pool for The Cashbox 13, an online Super Smash Bros Ultimate tournament known to draw multiple top-100 ranked players due to its size and scale. Freshman
Ethan Arts (Suamico, Wis., Bay Port HS) placed the highest for the Red Hawks, finishing in 65th with a 3-2 record for the event.
Competing as Steve, Arts won his first three rounds, going 2-0 in a first round match up against a Cloud player before coming back from a first game drop to earn a 2-1 second round victory over a Zelda main. Defeating a Greninja player in the third round, Arts would suffer his first loss just before cracking the top 64, falling 0-2 to a Captain Falcon main who would go on to finish just outside the top 8 for the event. Arts would be exited from the double-elimination event by a Link player in the next round, concluding his tournament with a 65th place result.
In addition to Arts, freshmen
Lyric Goelzer (Baraboo, Wis., Baraboo HS) and
Connor Schmidt (Milwaukee, Wis., Gold Meir HS) would compete and pick up wins at the event, both going 1-2 in the tournament and finishing with shares of 257th place. Junior
Sam Waring (Franklin, Wis., Franklin HS) would also record victories, going 2-2 and finishing in 193rd place.
