DE PERE, Wis. -- The Ripon College men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to St. Norbert College on Saturday afternoon at the Green Bay Tennis Center. The Red Hawks moved to 1-4 on the season with the loss.
Ripon faced a tough challenge early in doubles play, as St. Norbert claimed all three matches to secure the opening point. The top doubles pairing of senior Caleb Sippel (Appleton, Wis., Appleton North HS) and senior Austin Stevens (Mukwonago, Wis., Mukwonago HS) competed in the No. 1 position, while sophomores Kyle Flook (Sheboygan, Wis., Sheboygan South HS) and Ryan Richter (Plainfield, Ill., Plainfield Central HS) took the court at No. 2 and freshman Emerson Hendricks (Ripon, Wis., Ripon HS) and sophomore Ethan Tines (Menasha, Wis., St. Mary Catholic HS) rounded out doubles play at No. 3.
In singles action, the Red Hawks battled across all six positions. Sippel played at No. 1 singles, followed by Stevens at No. 2 and junior Corey Mooney (Greenfield, Wis., Greenfield HS) at No. 3. Flook competed at No. 4, Tines at No. 5, and Hendricks at No. 6. Despite consistent effort throughout the lineup, Ripon was unable to gain traction as St. Norbert secured straight-set wins in each match.
The contest provided valuable experience for the Red Hawks as the team continues to develop early in the spring season.
Ripon returns home on Sunday for a doubleheader, hosting Wisconsin Lutheran College at 9am before facing St. Mary's University (Minn.) at 3pm.
