Ripon Men’s Tennis Splits Home Matches on Sunday

RIPON, Wis. -- The Ripon College men's tennis team wrapped up a busy Sunday at the Willmore Center with a pair of matches, earning a 6-1 win over Wisconsin Lutheran in the morning before dropping a narrow 4-3 decision to Saint Mary's University (Minn.) in the afternoon.

Match One

Ripon opened the day with a strong all-around performance, taking two of three doubles matches to secure the early momentum. The No. 1 duo of seniors Caleb Sippel (Appleton, Wis., Appleton North HS) and Austin Stevens (Mukwonago, Wis., Mukwonago HS) cruised to a 6-0 victory, while sophomore Ethan Tines (Menasha, Wis. St., Mary Catholic HS) and freshman Emerson Hendricks (Ripon, Wis., Ripon HS) earned a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

That momentum carried into singles play, where Ripon claimed five of six matches. Sippel continued his strong day with a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, and Stevens followed with a hard-fought three-set victory at No. 2. junior Corey Mooney (Greenfield, Wis., Greenfield HS) earned a decisive win at No. 3, sophomore Kyle Flook (Sheboygan, Wis., Sheboygan South HS) picked up a straight-set victory at No. 4, and Hendricks closed out the match with a three-set win at No. 6 to secure the 6-1 team result.

Match Two

In the afternoon matchup, Ripon once again split doubles play, earning wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Sippel and Stevens picked up a 6-4 win at the top spot, while Mooney and Tines earned a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Singles play came down to the final points, with Ripon collecting three wins. Sippel remained unbeaten on the day with another straight-set win at No. 1 singles, and Mooney followed with a dominant performance at No. 3. Despite strong efforts across the lineup, Saint Mary's was able to edge out the remaining matches, handing Ripon a close 4-3 loss.

Ripon returns to action on Saturday, Feb 14, traveling to Minnesota to face Martin Luther College at 10am, followed by a 1pm match against Crown College.
