Ripon Sweeps Lakeland in Dominant Doubleheader Showing

PLYMOUTH, Wis. -- The Ripon College softball team earned a doubleheader sweep on Wednesday, defeating Lakeland 4-3 in the opener before rolling to a 13-0 run-rule victory in six innings in game two.

Game 1: Ripon 4, Lakeland 3

Ripon used a strong early offensive push and timely pitching to take the first game of the doubleheader.

The Red Hawks got on the board in the first inning when freshman Cyriana Reinwald (Horicon, Wis., Horicon HS) drove in freshman Carli Moldenhauer (Oconomowoc, Wis., Oconomowoc HS) with an RBI single. Ripon then broke things open in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run home run from Moldenhauer. Senior Arianna Alirez (Anchorage, Alaska, Alaska Middle College School) also added an RBI double in the frame to give Ripon a 4-0 advantage.

Lakeland responded with two runs in the third inning and added another in the fifth to cut the deficit to one, but Ripon's pitching held strong the rest of the way.

Moldenhauer led the offense with three hits, including a home run and two RBIs, while Reinwald added two hits and an RBI. Alirez also contributed with a double and a run driven in.

In the circle, freshman Peyton Vandeloo (Kaukauna, Wis., Freedom HS) earned the win after pitching four innings, while sophomore Brooklyn Cooper (Reno, Nev., Galena HS) secured the save with three innings of relief to preserve the 4-3 victory.

Game 2: Ripon 13, Lakeland 0 (6 innings)

Ripon carried its momentum into game two, using a dominant offensive performance and strong pitching to complete the sweep.

The Red Hawks broke through in the second inning with a two-RBI single from freshman Nora Lowney (Racine, Wis., Case HS). Ripon added two more runs in the third on RBI hits from Reinwald and freshman Desirae Kallstrom (DeForest, Wis., DeForest HS) to extend the lead to 4-0.

After adding two runs in the fifth inning, Ripon put the game away with a seven-run sixth inning. The inning featured multiple RBI contributions, including hits from freshman Callissa Keller (La Valle, Wis., Wonewoc-Center HS), Kallstrom, and Lowney, along with aggressive baserunning and capitalizing on Lakeland miscues.

Ripon totaled 15 hits in the game, with Lowney leading the way with three hits and three RBIs. Keller and Kallstrom each drove in two runs, while several others contributed to the offensive surge.

In the circle, sophomore Alayna Sadowska (Oshkosh, Wis., Oshkosh West HS) was dominant, tossing a two-hit shutout while striking out six over six innings to earn the win.

Ripon returns to action on Saturday, Mar 28, traveling to UW-Platteville for a doubleheader beginning at 1pm.
