RIPON, Wis. -- The Ripon College softball team used a balanced offensive attack and a strong performance in the circle to earn an 8-2 win over UW-La Crosse at home on Sunday.
Ripon wasted no time getting on the board, scoring twice in the first inning behind an RBI groundout and a sacrifice fly. The Red Hawks added two more runs in the second and continued to build their lead with single runs in the third and fourth before tacking on a pair in the fifth.
Ripon finished with 14 hits on the day, with several players contributing multi-hit efforts. Freshman Carli Moldenhauer (Oconomowoc, Wis., Oconomowoc HS) led the way, going 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, including a pair of doubles. Freshman Callissa Keller (La Valle, Wis., Wonewoc-Center HS) also collected three hits and drove in a run, while sophomore Ashlyn Schultz (Denmark, Wis., Denmark HS) added two hits and scored twice. Senior Kayla Cruz (Anaheim, Calif., Anaheim HS) chipped in with two hits and two RBI as part of the offensive surge.
In the circle, sophomore Alayna Sadowska (Oshkosh, Wis., Oshkosh West HS) turned in a complete-game performance to earn the win, allowing just four hits and two runs while working around seven walks and striking out two.
UW-La Crosse scored single runs in the second and third innings, but Ripon's pitching and defense held the visitors scoreless over the final four frames to secure the victory.
Ripon (13-5) returns to action Friday, Apr 3, traveling to Grinnell for a doubleheader beginning at 2pm.
