RIPON, Wis. -- The Ripon College men's tennis team fell 7-0 to Lawrence University on Tuesday afternoon at the Willmore Center.
The Red Hawks showed early fight in doubles play, highlighted by a strong performance at No. 1 where seniors Caleb Sippel (Appleton, Wis., Appleton North HS) and Austin Stevens (Mukwonago, Wis., Mukwonago HS) earned a 6-3 win. Lawrence, however, claimed the other two doubles matches to take the opening point.
In singles action, Ripon battled across the lineup but was unable to secure a win. Stevens pushed his match to three sets at No. 2 singles after taking the opening set, while junior Corey Mooney (Greenfield, Wis., Greenfield HS) also kept things competitive at No. 3 with a tight second set.
Ripon will look to bounce back on Saturday, April 18, with a pair of road matches. The Red Hawks travel to Illinois College for a 9:00am start before heading to Monmouth College for a 3:00pm matchup later in the day.
