RIPON, Wis. -- Ripon completed a dominant home sweep Sunday on Senior Day, taking both games of a doubleheader against Beloit behind strong pitching and timely hitting at Tracy Field.
In game one, Ripon leaned on a standout performance in the circle from freshman Peyton Vandeloo (Kaukauna, Wis., Freedom HS) to secure a 2-0 win. Vandeloo tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out 11 and working around nine walks. Despite the traffic, she kept Beloit off the board all afternoon.
The Red Hawks broke through in the fourth inning when freshman Sarah Marcheske (Waukesha, Wis., Kettle Moraine HS) delivered an RBI double to score freshman Cyriana Reinwald (Horicon, Wis., Horicon HS) for the game's first run. Ripon added an insurance run in the fifth as junior Nadiyah Huizar (Buena Park, Calif., Buena Park HS) brought home freshman Presley Koss (Palmyra, Wis., Palmyra-Eagle HS) on a fielder's choice. Marcheske led the offense with two hits, while Reinwald and senior Kayla Cruz (Anaheim, Calif., Anaheim HS) also contributed knocks in the low-scoring win.
Ripon carried that momentum into game two, using a big early offensive surge to run away with an 8-1 victory and complete the sweep.
After Beloit took a 1-0 lead in the first, Ripon responded with a three-run second inning, taking advantage of defensive miscues while getting RBI contributions from sophomore Maddie Heisler (Appleton, Wis., Appleton East HS) and Huizar. The Red Hawks continued to pile on, scoring two runs in both the third and fourth innings to build a commanding lead.
Freshman Callissa Keller (La Valle, Wis., Wonewoc-Center HS) paced the offense with a three-hit, two-RBI performance, while Marcheske added two hits and an RBI of her own. Heisler also had a strong showing with two hits and a run driven in, and freshman Desirae Kallstrom (DeForest, Wis., DeForest HS) chipped in a pair of RBIs.
Freshman Alayna Sadowska (Oshkosh, Wis., Oshkosh West HS)Â earned the win in the circle, going the distance while allowing just one run on four hits and keeping Beloit's offense in check throughout.
With the sweep, Ripon improves to 22-10 on the season and continues to build momentum late in the year. The Red Hawks will return to action Tuesday at home, hosting Maranatha Baptist in a doubleheader beginning at 12pm.
