DE PERE, Wis. -- Ripon College volleyball dropped a three-set match to Westminster College (Mo.) Friday evening, falling 25-22, 25-19, 25-21.
The Red Hawks battled throughout the opening set, trading points with Westminster before the Blue Jays pulled away late to take a 25-22 decision. Ripon continued to compete in the second set, but Westminster used a strong offensive attack to take a 25-19 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match. The Red Hawks again kept the third set close, but Westminster finished the match with a 25-21 win.
Sophomore Addi Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis., Wisconsin Lutheran HS) led Ripon offensively with 11 kills while committing just one attack error on 18 attempts, finishing with an impressive .556 hitting percentage. Johnson also contributed eight digs and a block.
Senior Haylee Kast (Reedsburg, Wis., Reedsburg Area HS) added six kills and recorded a team-high four service aces, while also collecting nine digs. Sophomore Brooklyn Tranberg (Milwaukee, Wis., Wisconsin Lutheran HS) chipped in six kills, three service aces and three digs, while junior Makenna Harren (Rosemount, Minn., Rosemount HS) finished with four kills, three blocks and a service ace.
Sophomore Mattea Jacobson (Saint Croix Falls, Wis., Saint Croix Falls HS) helped direct the Red Hawks' offense with 21 assists and added seven digs and a service ace. Sophomore Bryn Carlson (Green Lake, Wis., Ripon HS) paced Ripon's defensive effort with 11 digs, while Johnson and Kast also reached the nine-dig mark.
As a team, Ripon finished with 32 kills, 30 assists, 11 service aces, nine blocks and 45 digs. The Red Hawks also improved their attack from set to set, hitting .000 in the first, .162 in the second and .200 in the third.Â
The Red Hawks will return to action Saturday at 12:30pm, facing Saint Mary's University (Minn.) in De Pere.
