DE PERE, Wis. -- The Ripon College volleyball team competed in a pair of matches Saturday at the Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center, facing Saint Mary's University (Minn.) and Carthage College.
The Red Hawks opened the day against Saint Mary's, falling 3-0 by set scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-22. Ripon finished the match with 21 kills, led by sophomore Addi Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis., Wisconsin Lutheran HS), who recorded seven kills. Junior Makenna Harren (Rosemount, Minn., Rosemount HS) added five kills, while senior Haylee Kast (Reedsburg, Wis., Reedsburg Area HS) contributed four kills and three service aces. Sophomore Mattea Jacobson (Saint Croix Falls, Wis., Saint Croix Falls HS) directed the offense with 14 assists and also added six digs.
Defensively, sophomores Bryn Carlson (Green Lake, Wis., Ripon HS) and Brooklyn Tranberg (Milwaukee, Wis., Wisconsin Lutheran HS) each recorded 14 digs to lead the Red Hawks. Kast added five digs, while Johnson finished with five digs.
Ripon returned to the court Saturday afternoon against Carthage, dropping another 3-0 decision by scores of 25-17, 25-13 and 25-19. The Red Hawks totaled 23 kills in the match, with Harren leading the way with seven kills while hitting .545. Johnson also recorded seven kills and finished with a .267 hitting percentage. Kast added four kills and two service aces.
Jacobson once again handled the majority of the setting duties, recording 17 assists. Carlson led the defensive effort with 12 digs, while Kast added seven and Tranberg recorded five.
Following Saturday's two matches, Ripon moves to 1-7 overall on the season.
The Red Hawks will return to action Tuesday, Sept 15, at 7pm for their next match.
