Klementzos Converts Penalty Kick in Ripon’s Loss at Alma

ALMA, Mich. -- The Ripon College women's soccer team fell to Alma College, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Scotland Yard.

The Red Hawks found themselves in an early deficit after Alma scored in the eighth minute. Ripon continued to battle, but another goal in the 29th minute sent the Red Hawks into halftime trailing 2-0. 

Ripon came out of the halftime break looking to cut into the deficit and did just that in the 60th minute. Senior Alyssa Klementzos (Salem, Wis., Westosha Central HS) converted a penalty kick for her third goal of the season, bringing the Red Hawks within one at 2-1. 

The Red Hawks continued to battle, but a penalty kick in the 72nd minute restored the two-goal advantage for Alma. Ripon was unable to find another goal during the final 18 minutes. 

Klementzos led Ripon offensively with one goal and one shot on target. Sophomore Lizzy Schmitz (Sheboygan, Wis., Sheboygan Lutheran HS), senior Rebecca Roszel (Fremont, Calif., Irvington HS), freshman Teaghan Smith (Hartford, Wis., Hartford Union HS), and junior Lauren Janisch (Burnsville, Minn., Burnsville HS) also recorded shots for the Red Hawks. 

Sophomore Kaitlan Adkins (Milwaukee, Wis., Brown Deer HS) started in goal for the Red Hawks and made two saves in 81:15 of action. Sophomore Kayla Klang (Reedsburg, Wis., Reedsburg Area HS) played the final 8:45. As a team, Ripon recorded six shots, including four on goal, along with one corner kick. 

With the loss, Ripon falls to 2-2-0 on the season.

The Red Hawks will return home Wednesday, Sept 16, when they host Elmhurst University at 7:30pm.
