MONMOUTH, Ill. -- The Ripon College football program (1-3, 1-1 MWC) suffered their first conference loss of the season to Monmouth College (2-2, 2-0 MWC) this Saturday, September 26.
The Red Hawks faced early troubles as they opened their road game against the defending MWC champions. The Fighting Scots opened the first quarter with a three-touchdown performance, scoring on two 40+ yard passes and a 92 yard rush attempt. The second quarter saw the same level of Monmouth output with different play composition, as the Fighting Scots put up three touchdowns with two short runs and a short pass play. Trailing 42-0 at the halftime break, Ripon faced a larger deficit in the third quarter, with Monmouth scoring two more touchdowns to bring the score to 56-0.
The fourth saw Ripon score their sole touchdown of the game, with quarterback
Brady Immel (Winneconne, Wis., Winneconne HS) scoring on a 4-yard rush attempt after taking the team downfield from their own 35-yard line. The touchdown occurred on the last Ripon drive of the game, as Monmouth knelt in the final minute on Ripon's 56-7 road loss. The Red Hawks notched 210 yards of total offense, while Monmouth recorded 583. Ripon saw more success in the air than on the ground, going 10-21 passing for 127 yards, compared to 83 yards rushing on 33 attempts.
Ripon returns to action next Saturday, October 3, returning to Iowa to take on Cornell College. The Rams enter the game 1-3 this season, coming off a 26-13 loss to Luther College.
