Consistency Keys Ripon's Second Day of Spring Trip

Box Score vs. St. Scholastica
Box Score vs. Westfield State

CLERMONT, Fla. –
The Red Hawks would be hard pressed to be more consistent than they were Monday afternoon, scoring at least one run in eight of the 12 innings that they batted. That included scoring in every frame during their 7-0 victory over St. Scholastica (Minn.) to start the day. Ripon followed that up with a 4-3 loss to Westfield State.

Senior pitcher Stephanie Rieuwpassa was nearly perfect against St. Scholastica (0-3), tossing a two-hit complete game that saw her strikeout 13 batters and walk just one. Those 13 strikeouts are tied for fifth in school history for a single game. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a team-high three RBI.

The rest of the Red Hawks (2-2) gave Rieuwpassa enough run support after the first inning, which saw Cassie Bilotto record her sixth RBI of the season in the first inning on a double that scored Korrine Peterson from second base.

After scoring one run in both the second and third, Ripon added one apiece in the fourth and fifth innings on RBI singles by Cassie Olson and Ashley Gnacinski. Rieuwpassa capped the scoring with a two-run double, her fourth of the season.

Bilotto continued to hit the cover off the ball, going 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Peterson and Jordan Hester each scored a team-best two runs.

In the second game of the day, Ripon again scored first, as Bilotto drove in Peterson from second with a double to right center. Westfield State (1-0) didn’t have an answer for that until the bottom of the third when they plated three runs. The first two of those came on a wild pitch, with the third coming on an RBI single up the middle.

Ripon tied things up in the following inning, as Olson dropped down a bunt single with the bases loaded and Karissa Simonsen singled home another run. That score lasted until the bottom of the fifth when Westfield State hit an RBI single down the first base line to cap the scoring.

Bilotto and Simonsen led the Red Hawks with two hits apiece. Mallary Nissen (0-1) pitched well, striking out four batters in 4.1 innings. Rieuwpassa then came on in relief to strike out five batters, while allowing one hit in 1.2 innings of work.

The Red Hawks will continue their Spring Trip action in Florida on Tuesday when they’ll face Bethel University and Northwestern College at 11 am and 1 pm, respectively.
