MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Red Hawks broke into the win column Sunday afternoon with a 4-3 road victory over Monmouth College. Ripon overcame an early 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 halftime lead, before each team added one goal in the second period.
Monmouth (1-7-1, 0-2 MWC) got on the scoreboard just one minute into the contest on a header by Chizobam Nkemeh on an assist from Max Daniels. The Fighting Scots added a second goal in the 10th minute when Issac Hernandez scored on an Andrew Davis assist. Ripon (1-6, 1-1 MWC) finally got into the action in the 12th minute on Spencer Reisbick's second goal of the season, scoring on an assist from James Niescier. Reisbick and Niescier would both be credited with an assist on the team's second goal, as freshman Cameron Greene scored his first career goal in the 18th minute. Greene would add another goal in the 39th minute to give Ripon a one goal lead at intermission.
Monmouth tied things up in the 60th minute on Hernandez's second goal of the game on another assist by Daniels. That tie lasted until the 76th minute when Michael Anderson scored his first goal of the season on assists by both Matthew Lange and Jason Winkelmann.
Cameron Plantz recorded the victory in goal for the Red Hawks, saving one shot in his 32 minutes of play. Matt Schmidt played all 90 minutes in goal for the Fighting Scots, making three saves.
