Results

WAUKESHA, Wis. -
Friday's meet at Carroll University ended in a 129-76 loss for the Ripon men's swim team, but there were plenty of positives to take from the day. The Red Hawks saw three first-place finishes by student-athletes, while also recording five second-place finishes.

Jonathan Newbery highlighted the day with a pair of first-place finishes, winning the 200 freestyle (1:51.68) and 100 freestyle (49.78). Team captain Kevin Polston added the other first-place finish with a time of 58.50 in the 100 backstroke. Andy Paloumpis and Quinton Maydaniuk each placed second in two events. Paloumpis' second-place finishes came in the 100 butterfly (55.95) and 500 freestyle (5:29.13), while Maydaniuk took second in the 200 IM (2:08.99) and 100 breaststroke (1:03.39), both of which came within less than 0.5 seconds from winning. Alex Mehre added the team's other second-place finish, swimming a time of 11:15.27 in the 100 freestyle, which was less than one second off the pace of the top time in that event.

In relay competition, Ripon's 200 Medley team of Polston, Maydaniuk, Paloumpis and Newbery finished second with a time of 1:41.80, which was 0.26 seconds away from the top time.

The Red Hawks will hope to improve their times next weekend when they'll take part in the annual Wisconsin Private College Championships on Saturday, January 25. That meet will be hosted by Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. and is scheduled to begin at Noon.
