WAUKESHA, Wis. - After taking more than one month off from competition, Ripon's women's swim team dove back into their schedule Friday night, losing 145-45 at the Carroll University dual meet. Despite the team loss, the Red Hawks saw two individuals win an event.
Hannah Metz and
Winona Holmes-Robbins were victorious in the 200 and 500 freestyle, respectively. Metz won her event with a time of 2:06.66, while Holmes-Robbins swam a time of 5:50.46, which were both about three seconds faster than the next best swimmer in each event. Both Metz and Holmes-Robbins also earned second place finishes in the 100 freestyle (56.68) and 100 butterfly (1:04.06), both of which were less than one second off the pace of the first-place time.
Sara Heitkamp also garnered a second-place finish, swimming a time of 1:10.05 in the 100 backstroke, which was also less than one second from winning the event.
In relay competition, Holmes-Robbins, Heitkamp and Metz teamed up with
Hannah Herzog to take second in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 2:03.38.
The Red Hawks will hope to improve their times next weekend when they'll take part in the annual Wisconsin Private College Championships on Saturday, January 25. That meet will be hosted by Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. and is scheduled to begin at Noon.
