RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon swim and dive programs were back in the pool on Saturday to mark the opening of the 2023-24 campaign at Kohler Pool.
Highlighting the day were a host of first-place finishes on both sides.
On the men's side, the 200 medley relay foursome of
Cooper Herr,
Ben Chambers,
Ben Rahlf and
Brigham Freeman kicked off the meet with a first-place finish and a time of 1:42.70. All four Red Hawks earned individual first-place finishes as well: Chambers won the 50 free in 23.05 and the 100 back in 1:00.91, Freeman took the 200 IM title in 2:11.98, Rahlf conquered the 100 fly field in 55.60 and Herr won the 500 free with a time of 5:26.68.
Corey Mooney started his collegiate career with a first-place finish in the 1-mater diving with a 154.30 score.
On the women's side,
Sky Domingo opened the individual events with an 11:58.86 time in the 1000 free, good for a first-place finish. She also claimed first in the 100 breast with a 1:17.75 time.
Lauren Bahr also won an individual event for the Ripon women, crossing the finish line first in the 100 back (1:07.33).
Sophie Czerwonka edged out the Loras swimmer for the 200 IM title, finishing in 2:26.06.
The women's 200 free relay team of Bahr, Czerwonka, Domingo and
Natalie Weidner was the lone relay winner of the day for the Red Hawks with a time of 1:47.13.
Kristy Cerna-Rivera was the lone women's diver, tallying a score of 142.85.
As a team, the Ripon men fell 102-85, while the women dropped a tight 104-101 battle against the Duhawks.
UP NEXT: Ripon faces its first road test at Midwest Conference rival Lawrence on Saturday (October 21). The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
