BELOIT, Wis. -- The Ripon College swim and dive teams were back in the pool on Saturday, competing in a double dual against Beloit College and Lake Forest College inside the Nicholls Natatorium.
Despite several strong individual performances, the Red Hawks came up short in both matchups. The women's team fell 74–116 to Beloit and 46–150 to Lake Forest, while the men dropped their duals 55–91 to Beloit and 27–168 to Lake Forest.
The meet opened with a standout performance from the women's 200 medley relay team of senior Kennedy Moore (De Pere, Wis., De Pere HS), junior Ella Olive (Menominee, Mich., Marinette HS), junior Lily McGuire (Crystal Lake, Ill., Crystal Lake South HS), and freshman Peyton Washington (Milwaukee, Wis., Divine Savior Holy Angels), who took second with a time of 2:03.62. Senior Mary Elliot (Bayside, Wis., Whitefish Bay Dominican HS) impressed on the boards once again, finishing second in one-meter diving with a score of 137.20. In individual events, Washington led Ripon in the 100 backstroke (1:08.73), while senior Grace McCrery (Marion, Ohio, Harding HS) and McGuire placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100 butterfly. Olive also added a fourth-place finish in the 500 freestyle (6:06.29).
On the men's side, senior Cooper Herr (Ashwaubenon, Wis., Ashwaubenon HS) paced the Red Hawks with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:51.76) and third in the 500 free (5:22.52). Junior Corey Mooney (Greenfield, Wis., Greenfield HS) earned a victory in one-meter diving with a score of 160.15, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Herr, senior Brendan Kile (Verona, Wis., Verona Area HS), senior Sean Rath (Glen Ellyn, Ill., Glenbard West HS), and junior Wil Hargrave (Ripon, Wis., Wisconsin Connections Academy) finished third in 1:41.67 to close out the afternoon.
Ripon returns home next weekend to host Loras College on Friday, Oct 18, at 1 pm inside the Willmore Center.
