RIPON, Wis. - The Red Hawks men's swim team opened the season Saturday with a 129-56 dual meet loss to Loras College.

Ripon's men's team saw a pair of first place finishes on the day, as Jonathan Newbery and Nick Masterson did the honors in the 50 freestyle (22.54) and 100 backstroke (1:01.24), respectively. Newbery also swam to a second-place finish in both the 100 freestyle (49.81) and 100 breaststroke (1:05.96), finishing less than one second behind the top time in each event. Masterson added a second-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:19.05. Alex Mehre added a pair of second-place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly with times of 2:01.69 and 59.68, respectively.

The Red Hawks will have the next couple weeks off, before jumping back in the pool on November 15 at the Lawrence Triangular in Appleton, Wis.
