MOUNT VERNON, Iowa -,Ripon converted 27 percent (13-49) of their shots from the field Saturday afternoon, en route to a 73-37 loss at Cornell, who made more shots in the first half (14) than the Red Hawks did the entire day. Another key for Cornell was their 50-25 rebounding advantage, which helped the Rams outscore Ripon 18-5 in second chance points.
Ripon's only lead of the contest came in the opening minutes when
Nicole Herkert scored the game's first basket. Cornell (4-3, 2-2 MWC) would tie the score on the ensuing possession and would never look back, going on a 20-4 run to open a 14-point lead midway through the opening half. The Rams shot 50 percent (14-28) from the field in the first period, en route to a 33-13 halftime lead.,Cornell continued to lead by double digits in the second half, going up by as many as 40 points late in the game.
Meg Ryan led the Red Hawks (1-5, 1-2 MWC) with seven points, while Herkert and
Jonalee Elliott each scored six.
Megan Jensen added five points and a game-high four steals.
Taylor Dicus led all scorers with 18 points, on 6-of-7 shooting, and eight rebounds (five offensive) for Cornell. Rikki Mulloy added 16 points, while Sarah Hansen scored 14 off the bench, thanks to four 3-pointers. The Rams converted 9-of-25 (36 percent) from 3-point range, while Ripon missed all five of their long-range shots.
