RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon men's swim team defeated UW-Oshkosh in a dual meet on Saturday in what was the Red Hawks' final tune-up before the 2014 Midwest Conference Championships, which will take place later this month.
Against UW-Oshkosh, Ripon produced five individual and two relay first place finishes. In the 100 butterfly, the Red Hawks took the top three spots, as
Andy Paloumpis won the event with a time of 57:03, while
Alex Mehre and
Nick Masterson finished second and third with times of 58.01 and 1:01.20, respectively.
Jonathan Newbery added a first place finish in the 100 freestyle (50.47), to go along with second-place finishes in both the 200 freestyle (1:53.76) and 100 breaststroke (1:06.26).
Tyler Rutkowski,
Kevin Polston and
Quinton Maydaniuk also won events in the 400 IM (4:51:56), 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke (1:01.68), respectively. Also finishing with a top-two finish was
Alex Mehre, who placed second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:32.86.
Ripon won both relays that they participated in on Saturday. In the 200 Medley, Polston, Rutkowski, Mehre and Masterson teamed up to swim a time of 1:45.44. Polston was also a part of Ripon's winning 200 Freestyle team with Newbery, Paloumpis and Maydaniuk, which swam a time of 1:31.19.
The Red Hawks will take next weekend off from competition, before taking part in the 2014 MWC Championships, which will take place February 14-16 in Grinnell, Iowa.
