Red Hawks Split Pair of Games

Ripon salvaged a split on Thursday, thanks to a 10-8 victory over Trinity College, which came on the heels of a 7-3 loss to Manchester University to start the night.

Against Manchester (3-5), Ripon fell behind early, giving up four runs on just one hit in the top of the first inning, as three of those runs scored on wild pitches. Ripon (2-4) cut that lead in half in the bottom of the inning, scoring the first run on an RBI single by Cassie Bilotto, which moves her into a second place tie with Stephanie Rieuwpassa '13 for career RBi with 78. The team's second run came when Ashley Gnacinski scored on a wild pitch.

Both teams added a run in the fourth inning, with Manchester's run coming via an RBI single and Courtney Bloomer scoring Ripon's on an error. Manchester tacked on another in the fifth on a solo home run by Niezgodsk, who capped the scoring in the seventh with a second solo shot.

The Red Hawks were led by Bilotto, who collected three of the team's seven hits. Ashley Parkkonen (0-2) took the loss, striking out three batters in 4.1 innings of work.

In the nightcap, Ripon's offense exploded to the tune of eight runs on seven hits in the top of the first inning, which saw 12 batters come to the plate. The Red Hawks got on the board on an RBI single by Bilotto. That scored Korrine Peterson, who had a monster game, recording three hits, while scoring three runs and tying a school record with four stolen bases. Stephanie Cartwright, Haylea Hoskins, Cassie Olson, Jordan Hester, Bloomer and Parkkonen also got into the action, driving in a run in the inning.

Trinity (1-8) nearly matched the Red Hawks in the bottom of the first, scoring six runs on six hits to cut the lead to two. The game then turned into a pitcher's duel, as neither team scored again until the fifth when Ripon added a pair of runs on a single by Gnacinski. Trinity made things interesting late in the game, scoring once in the sixth and again in the seventh, but they would leave two runners stranded in the final frame.

Peterson was one of two Ripon players with more than one hit, as Hester was 2-for-5 at the plate. Gnacinski (2-2) earned the win, allowing six earned runs in seven innings.

The Red Hawks will be in action again on Friday when they'll battle North Central and Hope College at 9 and 11 a.m. ET, respectively. Those games will both be played at the Minneola Athletic Complex in Clermont, Fla.
