Box Score vs. Blackburn
Box Score vs. Augustana (Ill.)
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Ripon won one of their two games Sunday afternoon, defeating Blackburn College 4-2, before losing to 21st-ranked Augustana (Ill.) College, 5-0. The Red Hawks allowed just four earned runs in the two games combined, while scoring their four runs during the day on eight hits.
Ashley Gnacinski led Ripon (3-11) to a victory against Blackburn, tossing seven innings of five-hit ball. Gnacinski didn't allow an earned run and recorded a season-high five strikeouts, while tying a season-low with one walk.
With Gnacinski dominating in the circle, Ripon's offensive attack was led by Korrine Peterson, who produced the game's first run in the bottom of the first all by herself. After reaching on an error to lead off the inning, Peterson stole both second and third, before scoring on a passed ball.
An Ashley Parkkonen RBI double in the second inning gave Ripon a 2-0 lead, while she and Peterson scored the other two Red Hawks runs on a single off the bat of Jordan Hester in the same inning.
Peterson finished the game with three steals, which is one shy of the school's single-game record, which she tied earlier this season in a win over Trinity (Conn.).
Ripon recorded as many hits in the second game as they did in the first, but it didn't result in any runs against Augustana, who entered the contest ranked #21 in Division-III. Augustana scored twice in the first and once each in the second, third and fifth. They were led by Krista Watson's game-high two hits, while Jenna Teson drove in a pair of runs.
The Red Hawks hits came from Parkkonen, Haylea Hoskins, Stephanie Cartwright, Cassie Olson, with a double by Cartwright being the team's only extra-base hit. Gnacinski allowed four earned runs in six innings of work, striking out two and walking one.
Ripon is scheduled to be in action again on Thursday in their conference and home opener against Carroll University. That doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at Tracy Field in Ripon, with LiveStats available by going to:
