RIPON, Wis. - In what was their final conference doubleheader of the season, Ripon lost to Carroll University 5-1 and 9-1 Monday afternoon in what was also the Red Hawks' home finale.
The first game of the day was close for most of the game. Ripon (8-23, 4-9 MWC) struck first with a run in the bottom of the second when
Cassie Olson scored on a Pioneers throwing error. Carroll (11-21, 6-4 MWC) tied things up in the third when Hannah Sanidas hit an RBI double to right center.
Neither team would score again until the final inning, which saw Carroll take their first lead of the day with four runs in the top of the seventh, as they were assisted by three Ripon errors in the inning. Kelsey Uhlenbrauck recorded the go-ahead hit on an RBI single with no outs, which was followed by another RBI single and a one-out single that scored two more runs.
Ripon's eight hits came from six different players, with Olson and
Jordan Hester leading the way with two base knocks.
Ashley Gnacinski took the loss, despite not allowing an earned runs and striking out three in seven innings of work.
Carroll recorded seven hits in the game, with two apiece from Sanidas and Megan Kohlmetz. Natalie Ruechel also pitched a complete game for the Pioneers without giving up an earned run.
In the second game, Carroll got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first. Ripon cut that lead in half in the bottom of that inning when
Stephanie Cartwright singled to right center, scoring Hester from second. Carroll scored two more runs the following inning on just one hit, before adding another in the third.
Ripon faced a golden opportunity in the fourth, loading the bases with no outs, but they couldn't get any runs home. Carroll took full advantage of that missed opportunity by scoring four runs on five hits in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Ripon's six hits came from six different players, as each one was a single.
Ashley Parkkonen took the loss, striking out two batters in five innings.
Carroll recorded 10 hits in the game with two apiece coming from Micah Clutter, Rebecca Ciampa and Uhlenbrauck, who also recorded a game-high three RBI. Amanda Desotell earned the victory, allowing one earned run in three innings, while striking out two.
