Box Score 2 OSHKOSH, Wis. -,The Ripon volleyball team continued its hot start to the 2014 season, improving their record to 9-2, which is their best start to a season since 2002. The Red Hawks defeated Finlandia and Martin Luther by identical 3-0 scores in day one of the UW-Oshkosh Invitational Friday night, giving them a 9-0 record against teams that are not ranked in Division-III's Top 25.
Against Finlandia (2-7), Ripon was as impressive as they've been all season, winning the first set 25-4 in which they recorded a hitting percentage of .636, before finishing off the Lions 25-19 and 25-16 in the second and third sets, respectively. The Red Hawks were led by
Emily Gary's eight kills, while
Eleanore Mueller added seven.
Stephanie Peterson also chipped in with five kills.
Abbi Williamson led the Red Hawks in both service aces (4) and assists (14), while
Brianne Milroy posted a team-best 16 digs.Â
Maddie Koster also turned in a nice match with season-highs of 13 assists and three service aces.
In the nightcap, Ripon defeated Martin Luther 25-17, 25-14, 25-20. The Red Hawks finished with a hitting percentage of .344, compared to .140 for Martin Luther (2-8).
Allison Barnes led all players with 10 kills, to go along with nine digs and two solo blocks. Gary,
Katie Berrell and
Paige Buddenhagen each added eight kills. Milroy again led the team in digs with 15, while Williamson's 39 assists were also a team high.
The Red Hawks will conclude their appearance in the UW-Oshkosh Tournament on Saturday when they'll face Dominican (Ill.) and UW-Oshkosh at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.,
