GRINNELL, Iowa - One day after suffering their first conference loss of the season, Ripon rebounded on Saturday, defeating Grinnell in three sets (25-18, 25-18, 30-28). The match featured 19 ties, with 16 of them coming in the final set, and eight lead changes (seven in the final set).
The Red Hawks (7-12, 4-1 MWC) were led by
Katie Berrell and
Emily Gary, whom finished with 13 and 12 kills, respectively.
Abbi Williamson led the team with 24 assists, while
Maddie Koster posted a match-high 19 digs.,
Grinnell (0-15, 0-6 MWC) received nine kills from Evelyn Weidman, while Olivia Fromm recorded seven. Grinnell held the blocking advantage, 5-4.
The win keeps Ripon atop the MWC standings, in a first-place tie with Cornell. The Red Hawks will be in action again on Friday when they'll host Knox College. That match will begin at 7 p.m. at Storzer Center in Ripon and will double as the team's annual "Play For The Cure" game in which all fans in attendance are asked to wear pink and donations will be accepted to support cancer research.
