RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon College men's soccer team won their third consecutive game Sunday afternoon, defeating Rockford University 2-0, putting the Red Hawks over the .500 mark for the first time since September 26. The Red Hawks also held a 16-7 shot advantage, including 9-2 in the first half.
Ripon (6-5-1) started the scoring in the 41st minute when
Mherete Mherete scored for the second time this season with a shot off the cross bar on an assist from
Corey Beecher. Neither team scored again until the 89th minute when
Christian Navarro put the game away for the Red Hawks with his second goal of the year, thanks to an assist from
Paul Karls.
Jimmy Amedeo saved three shots in his 90 minutes of work, extending his consecutive scoreless streak to 290 minutes. Rockford (2-11-0) saw six saves from their Goal Keeper Anthony Beck, who also played the entire game.
The Red Hawks have now won three consecutive games for the first time since the 2010 season, which is the last time they advanced to the Midwest Conference Tournament. They will try to keep things going on Thursday when they'll host Northwestern (Minn.) at 4 p.m. in Ripon.
