MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Ripon won their second game in a row Tuesday night, defeating Wisconsin Lutheran 85-73 in a game that saw the Red Hawks lead for the final 25 minutes. The win keeps Ripon undefeated against Wisconsin Lutheran in six all-time meetings.
Ripon (2-1) shot exactly 50 percent in both halves, but fell behind early as Wisconsin Lutheran (1-3) scored the game's first four points. That lead would last for five minutes, until back-to-back 3-pointers by
Elliot Hoerdemann and
Brendan McCoy gave Ripon their first lead of the night. The Red Hawks would go up by seven mid-way through the first half, but Wisconsin Lutheran answered with 10 consecutive points to take the lead again.
Ty Sabin then hit consecutive jumpers to give Ripon the lead for good. A 3-pointer by Sabin at the buzzer gave the Red Hawks an 11-point halftime lead.
In the second half, the Red Hawks continued to hold Wisconsin Lutheran at bay, as they led by six points or more during the entire period. Ripon took their largest lead of 16 on a
Ty Ketz layup with five minutes remaining.
Ripon committed just five turnovers in the game, while eight different players scored at least five points. They were led by Sabin's 33 points and seven rebounds. Hoerdemann added career-highs of nine points and eight rebounds, while Ketz also finished with nine points.
Cal Schultz and
Nathan Larson chipped in with eight and seven points, respectively, off the bench.
Wisconsin Lutheran saw all five starters score in double figures, but Ripon's bench outscored the Warriors, 22-2. Collin Kennedy, Jake Jarnigo and Chase Nowak each finished with a team-high 16 points for WLC. Jim Marose added 13 points and 16 rebounds (eight offensive).
