Red Hawks Lose Dual Meet At UW-Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. -
In what was their final tune up before the Midwest Conference Championships, the Ripon men's swim team lost a dual meet to UW-Oshkosh Saturday, 99-46.

Jonathan Newbery highlighted the meet for the Red Hawks, earning two first-place finishes. Newbery won the 50 butterfly with a time of 26.00, which was more than one second better than the second-place time, while also winning the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:28.00. Andy Paloumpis added a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.85, which was just 0.01 seconds shy of the top time, while also finishing third in the 50 breaststroke (33.25). Also earning a second-place finish were Alex Mehre in the 50 backstroke (29.72) and David Peterkes in the 200 freestyle (2:07.03).

In relay competition, Ripon's 200 medley team of Newbery, Peterkes, Mehre, and Brian Schumacher finished second with a time of 1:54.94.

The Red Hawks will now prepare for the annual MWC Championships, which will take place from Feb. 13-15 in Grinnell, Iowa.
