Ripon Drops Pair of Games On First Day of 2015 Season

CLERMONT, Fla. - On a day in which Ripon's softball team played their season opener, the Red Hawks began the 2015 campaign with a pair of losses. They began the day with a 3-0 loss to Concordia (Wis.), before falling 8-0 to William Paterson.
,
Against Concordia, Ripon (0-2) held their own for much of the game, but couldn't take advantage of their scoring opportunities, leaving seven runners on base. The Falcons took full advantage of that, taking the game's first lead on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first.
,
Concordia (4-3) added to that lead in the third when they plated a second run on an RBI triple to right center. They would add an insurance run in the sixth on a fielder's choice to cap the scoring.
,

Ashley Gnacinski and Desiree Velazquez led the Red Hawks with two hits apiece, while Korrine Peterson, Meg Krautsch, and Ashley Parkkonen also added one base knock apiece. Gnacinski (0-1) pitched a complete game four-hitter, allowing three earned runs and striking out one.
,
In the second game, Ripon again fell behind early, as William Paterson (3-0) scored twice on a single before Ripon was able to record any outs. William Paterson added two more runs the following inning on a lead off home run and a wild pitch. They would add three more runs in the fifth and another for good measure in the seventh.
,
Gnacinski again finished the game by going 2-for-3 at the plate, while Peterson added two more hits of her own.
Stephanie Cartwright and Tene Robinson also each added a base hit for the Red Hawks. Ripon's three errors in the field contributed to the result, as just four of William Paterson's eight runs were earned.
,
The Red Hawks will try to get into the winning column on Monday when they'll face Fredonia and Hope at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively. Those games will be played at Hancock Park in Clermont, Fla. The game against Fredonia will have LiveStats available at:,
