Red Hawks Fall To Fredonia And Hope

CLERMONT, Fla. – Ripon recorded 10 hits in Monday's two games combined, but it resulted in a pair of losses on the second day of action on their 2015 Spring Trip. The Red Hawks lost their first game 12-2 to Fredonia, before falling to Hope College by a score of 8-0, in six innings.

Ripon (0-4) fell behind early, as Fredonia (1-5) got on the board in the top of the first on an RBI single. Fredonia added six more runs in the second, thanks to three hits and three Ripon errors.

Fredonia added another run in the fourth, before Ripon got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. The Red Hawks' first runs of the day came courtesy of a double off the bat of
Celine Diedrick, making the score 8-2.

Fredonia waited until the seventh and final inning to put four more runs across the plate to cap the scoring.

Diedrick and
Meg Krautsch led the Red Hawks with two hits apiece, while Korrine Peterson, Ashley Gnacinski, and Desiree Velazquez also recorded one hit apiece. Jessica Szyska (0-1) suffered the loss, despite allowing just one earned run in 1.2 innings of work. Only four of Fredonia's 12 runs were earned due to Ripon's six errors in the field.

In Ripon's second game, they again fell behind early, as Hope (4-2) plated four runs in the opening inning, scoring runs on an error and a bunt single, and two more on a single.

Hope added three more runs in the bottom of the third, with the big blow coming on a two-run home run over the left field fence. Hope ended the game in the sixth when they scored on a sacrifice fly to make the score 8-0.

Ripon finished the game with three hits, with two coming off the bat of Velazquez, and the other coming from Peterson.
Haylea Hoskins (0-1) started the game, allowing four runs in three innings, while striking out a career-high four batters.
