LAKE WALES, Fla. - Ripon never led Tuesday, en route to a pair of losses at the hands of William Paterson. The Red Hawks dropped the day's first game 9-2, before losing the second in a offensive battle, 14-10.
William Paterson (5-1) took their first lead of the game in the second inning of the first game, scoring on an RBI single. They would score four more runs in the following inning, which included a two-run home run. Ripon (2-4) would score their first run in the bottom of the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly from
Nick Uhen, allowing
Nick Kita to score.
William Paterson scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Ripon was able to get one of those back in the sixth when
Dakotah Kirchenwitz scored thanks to an error. William Paterson would add two more runs in the sixth on a pair of RBI singles to put the game further out of reach.
Kirchenwitz and
Bradley Knoblock led Ripon with two hits apiece.
Drew Slade (0-1) started the game, allowing five earned runs on eight hits, while striking out two in three innings of work.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Ripon again fell behind early, as William Paterson plated two runs in the top of the first on a sac fly and an RBI single. The Red Hawks cut that lead in half with a run in the second, as
Josh Oswald scored on an error after leading the inning off with a double.
William Paterson added four runs on four hits in the third, while Ripon got on the board in the bottom of that inning when
Michael Polcyn connected on a two-run double. After the two teams traded runs in the middle innings, which included an RBI double off the bat of Uhen, William Paterson put two runs on the board in both the sixth and seventh innings.
That set the stage for a Ripon rally in the bottom of the final inning, which they entered with a 14-4 deficit. The first six batters in the inning reached base, including Uhen, who crushed a three-run home run over the outfield fence. In the end, Ripon's rally fell four runs short, as they would lose, 14-10.
Uhen and Oswald led the Red Hawks with two hits apiece, while Uhen also finished with a game-high four RBI.
Brandon Hughes (1-1) started the game, striking out two batters in his three innings of work, while also allowing six earned runs on eight hits.
The Red Hawks will try to rebound on Wednesday when they'll battle Greenville College at 9:30 a.m. ET at Chain of Lakes Park Stadium.
