CLERMONT, Fla. - Before Ripon's day ended with a torrential downpour, suspending their game against Carleton College on Thursday, the Red Hawks suffered an 11-2 loss to Bowdoin College. The loss, which took just six innings, featured 11 hits by Bowdoin and four by the Red Hawks.
Ripon (2-5) fell behind early, as Bowdoin (9-4) scored the game's first run in the top of the first on an RBI single by Katie Gatley. The Polar Bears added three runs in the following inning, scoring two runs on wild pitches, and one more on an RBI single.
The Red Hawks waited until the fourth inning to get on the board.
Rebeccah Jones drove in the team's first run on a single to center, while
Ashley Parkkonen scored on a double steal later in the inning.
Bowdoin then scored three runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth, to put the game out of reach.
Jones finished the game with two of Ripon's four hits, while Parkkonen and
Desiree Velazquez recorded the other two. Parkkonen (0-2) started the game, allowing five earned runs on eight hits, while striking out four in five innings of work.
Ripon's second game of the day was suspended due to rain with Carleton leading 8-2 with one out in the top of the fifth inning.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Friday when they'll play D'Youville and Macalester at 1 and 5 p.m. ET, respectively.
