RIPON, Wis. - The Red Hawks bats came to life Tuesday afternoon, to the tune of 16 hits, en route to a 10-1 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran. In a game in which they never trailed, the Red Hawks saw all nine batters in their lineup record at least one hit. On the mound, Ripon used five pitchers (
Patrick Van Daalwyk,
Marshall Zahn,
Michael Anderson,
Ethan Bemowski, and
Jeff Schuurmans), who combined to limit Wisconsin Lutheran to just five hits.
The first runs of the game came in the second inning when
Mitchell Busch and
Randy Finger each recorded RBI singles. Wisconsin Lutheran cut that lead in half with a run in the top of the fourth, but that is as close as the score would get the rest of the day. The Red Hawks added a run in the bottom of that inning on a
Nick Kita single, before scoring another in the fifth on an RBI double from
Bradley Knoblock.
Two more runs came around to score on a
Nick Schmitt double in the sixth, while they scored two more in the seventh on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly. The Red Hawks capped the scoring in the eighth when
Dakotah Kirchenwitz drew a bases loaded walk and Knoblock drove in another with a sac fly.
Michael Polcyn led all players with three hits, while also scoring two runs. Kita, Kirchenwitz, Knoblock, and Busch also finished with multi-hit games, recording two hits apiece. Van Daalwyk (1-1) earned the victory, pitching three innings of one hit ball, while striking out three without a walk.
Ripon will be in action again on Wednesday when they'll play one nine-inning game at Marian University. That game will begin at 5 p.m. in Fond du Lac, Wis.
