FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Ripon's baseball team traveled to Marian University Wednesday afternoon for a game that wouldn't be decided until the very end. Entering the bottom of the ninth with the score tied at one, Marian (8-12) recorded a walk-off single with one out in the frame, to defeat the Red Hawks 2-1.
Ripon (6-9) scored their only run in the top of the very first inning, as a
Josh Oswald single scored
Jake Reinke, who led the inning off with a walk. That's how the score would remain until the fifth when Marian tied things up on a sacrifice fly. Neither team would score again until Marian's heroics in the bottom of the ninth.
Ethan Bemowski (1-1) suffered the loss, despite allowing just one run on three hits in 3.2 innings of relief.
The Red Hawks will try to put this loss behind them, as they'll host Wisconsin Lutheran in a single nine-inning game on Tuesday. That game will begin at 4 p.m. in Ripon.
