RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's women's swim team opened their 2016-17 season Saturday afternoon with a 117-100 loss to Loras College.
The Red Hawks earned three first-place finishes on the day.
Emma Goral took first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.53, which was three seconds more than the next-best time, while
Abby Hilker added a first-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:25.09. Ripon's 200 freestyle relay team of
Lateesha Hiser,
Winona Holmes-Robbins, Alli Roetz, and
Hannah Metz also took first with a time of 1:48.43.
Goral added a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:04.61, which was just 0.59 seconds shy of the winning time. Holmes-Robbins also earned a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:05.76), while Hiser was second in the 100 freestyle (1:01.04). Metz also added a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle (27.87), while
Gabby Horstmeier was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.23).
The Red Hawks will be in action again next weekend when they'll travel to Lawrence University. That dual meet will begin at 1 p.m. in Appleton, Wis.
