RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's volleyball team lost to St. Norbert College Wednesday night in three sets, losing 25-18, 25-21, 25-15. Both teams recorded double-digit kills in all three sets, but St. Norbert recorded a hitting percentage of .360 in the match, while holding the Red Hawks to a hitting percentage of .190. The match featured 17 ties and six lead changes, with the second set being closely contested with seven ties and four lead changes.
Ripon (16-9, 5-4 MWC) was led by Junior
Katie Berrell's 13 kills and 11 digs. Berrell now has 854 career kills, which is three shy of 10th place in program history, and also has recorded at least 300 kills for the second time in her three years.
Paige Buddenhagen added nine kills, while
Kat Kulas finished with seven.
Abbi Williamson recorded a match-high 33 assists, which brings her school record career total to 3,554, which ranks 11th in Midwest Conference history, just 24 shy of the 10th-place total.
Maddie Koster led the team in digs with 13, while Kendra Hote and
Brianna Rizzuto each recorded one service ace.
St. Norbert (12-13, 7-1 MWC) saw three players record double-digit kills, led by Ali Rueter's 12 (.429 hitting pct.). Lexie Van Hiel added 11 kills and a .476 hitting percentage, while Anika Johnson had 10 kills and a hitting percentage of .400. Halie Ferry and Hannah Johnshoy finished with nine and eight kills, respectively.
The Red Hawks are still clinging to their MWC Tournament lives. Although Ripon has no more conference games remaining, they can still qualify for the 2016 MWC Tournament if Grinnell loses to both Knox and Monmouth this weekend. Ripon will finish their regular season Friday at 7 p.m. when they'll host Marian University in what will also serve as Senior Night, honoring Williamson, Buddenhagen, Koster, and
Sydney Radandt. That night will also be 'Spooky In Storzer' in which all fans are asked to wear their best Halloween costume in order to win prizes. As part of the MWC Canned Food Challenge, non-perishable food items will also be collected at the door, which will be donated to the Ripon Food Pantry.
