RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon volleyball team won both on and off the court Friday night, raising more than $600 for cancer research during their annual 'Play For The Cure' match, while also earning a four-set victory against Illinois College. The Red Hawks took the first two sets 25-18, 25-21, before losing the third, 19-25, and closing out the match with a 25-20 victory in the fourth set.
Ripon (13-6, 2-1 MWC) recorded at least 14 kills in each set, finishing the match with a team hitting percentage of .234, while limiting Illinois College to a hitting percentage of .187. The match featured 13 ties and five lead changes, all of which came after the first set.
Senior
Paige Buddenhagen led Ripon's attack with a team-high 15 kills and a hitting percentage of .375.
Katie Berrell added 13 kills, while
Kat Kulas finished with 10, to go along with four block assists.
Abbi Williamson added a match-high 46 assists, while
Maddie Koster led all players with 18 digs.
Brianna Rizzuto led Ripon with two service aces.
Illinois College (12-7, 2-1 MWC) was led by Lisa Lowry's 17 kills, while Ali Pankey added 14. Elizabeth Ganley chipped in with 43 assists for the Lady Blues.
The victory moves Ripon into a four-way tie for second place in the Midwest Conference standings. They will try to build off this win on Saturday when they'll host Monmouth College at 1 p.m.
