RIPON, Wis. - Fourteen different players scored at least two points for Ripon in Saturday's 88-45 home victory over Knox College. The win improves Ripon to 6-0 and gives the Red Hawks a 4-0 start in conference play for the first time since the 2010-11 season, while also keeping them in a three-way tie with Grinnell and St. Norbert atop the Midwest Conference standings. Ripon forced Knox into 22 turnovers, which the Red Hawks turned into 28 points. The Red Hawks also out-scored the Prairie Fire in the paint by a 46-22 margin and held a 17-6 advantage in second-chance points, while also out-rebounding Knox 45-29.
Ripon (6-0, 4-0 MWC) never trailed during the game, scoring the first six points of the day, and getting out to an 18-2 lead just seven minutes into the contest. The Red Hawks led 29-5 with eight and a half minutes left in the first half, coasting to a 44-13 halftime lead. Ripon finished the first half shooting 53 percent (16-30) from the field, while holding Knox (1-6, 1-3 MWC) to just 20 percent (6-30) shooting, as the Prairie Fire missed all 12 of their 3-point attempts.
The Red Hawks never trailed by fewer than 24 points in the second half, using a 26-8 run to take their largest lead of 44 with two and a half minutes remaining.Ripon shot 50 percent (16-32) from the field in the second half.
The Red Hawks were led by a trio of players with 12 points, as
Ty Sabin,
Isaac Masters and
Brendan McCoy did the honors, with none of them playing more than 24 minutes. Masters also recorded four rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Freshman
Seth Kostroski and
Cal Schultz each added nine points off the bench, while
Koy Brecklin scored eight points and pulled down seven rebounds in just 16 minutes.
Knox was led by Marko Protic's eight points and five rebounds, while Robert Suntken added seven points off the bench.
Ripon will now step out of conference play on December 21 when they'll travel to UW-Whitewater to face a Warhawks team that is also currently 6-0. That game will begin at 7 p.m. in Whitewater, Wis., with LiveStats available atÂ
