Ripon Scorches The Net In Win At Willamette

SALEM, Wis. - Ripon shot 55 percent (36-65) from the field, including 53 percent (8-15) from 3-point range, en route to an 87-57 win at Willamette (Ore.) Thursday afternoon. The Red Hawks led for the final 35 minutes in the game, holding Willamette to 36 percent (22-62) shooting on the day.

Willamette (1-9) scored the game's first eight points before Ty Sabin got Ripon (7-1) on the board two and a half minutes into the contest. Willamette led until the 15 minute mark in the first half when Sabin connected on a 3-pointer to give the Red Hawks an 11-10 lead. With a three-point lead mid-way through the first half, Ripon went on a 17-7 run to take a 13-point advantage in the final minutes of the period.

Ripon took a 10-point lead into halftime and extended that lead to 15 in the opening minutes of the second half. That lead was cut to eight with under 14 minutes remaining, but that's as close as they would get for the rest of the day. Ripon ended the game on a 33-11 run, leading by as many as 32 points.

With a game-high 31 points, Sabin became just the seventh player in Midwest Conference history to score more than 2,000 career points. He shot 12-of-18 from the field, including 3-4 from 3-point range, while adding six rebounds and two steals. Brendan McCoy chipped in with 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Isaac Masters posted eight points and four assists.

Willamette was led by Hayden Russell's 13 points, while Nico Troplent led all players with 11 reounds (four offensive) off the bench.

Ripon will be in action again on Friday when they'll travel to Forest Grove, Oregon to face Pacific University. That game will begin at 5 p.m. CT and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/pacific/portal.htm?eventId=323435&streamType=video.
