Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Long-Range Shooting Propels Ripon Past Carroll

RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon men's basketball team converted 12 3-pointers Wednesday night, which is tied for sixth in school history for a single game, en route to a 75-65 victory over Carroll University. Nine of those 12 long-balls came from just two players, as Nathan Larson and Ty Ketz combined to shoot 75 percent (9-12) from behind the arc, while Ripon as a team shot 57 percent (12-21) from downtown.

The two teams traded baskets for the first five minutes of the game, before Ripon (12-7, 10-4 MWC) took a six-point lead thanks to a pair Larson 3-pointers. The Red Hawks would lead by as many as seven in the first half and would take a 33-27 lead into halftime. Ripon shot 48 percent (14-29) from the field in the first half, while holding Carroll (14-4, 10-3 MWC) to just 33 percent (11-33) shooting.

Ripon would never lead by less than six the rest of the way. After trading baskets with the Pioneers for the first few minutes of the second period, the Red Hawks pulled away thanks to a 15-4 run that included a pair of 3-pointers from both Larson and Ketz. Ripon's largest lead came a few minutes later when Ketz connected from downtown again to give Ripon a 19-point lead with eight and a half minutes to play, helping the Red Hawks coast to victory.

Ty Sabin led all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including two 3-pointers of his own. Larson added 19 points, which comes just one game after scoring a career-high of 20, while Ketz finished with 18 Wednesday night.

Carroll was led by 18 points and five rebounds from Bryan Nagy, while Nick Lange and Tanner Zaeske added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The win pulls Ripon within one-half game of Carroll for second place in the Midwest Conference standings. The Red Hawks will be in action again on Saturday when they'll travel to Cornell College. That game will begin at 1 p.m. in Mount Vernon, Iowa and can be seen live at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
