Red Hawks Lose To Transylvania and Macalester

CLERMONT, Fla. - Ripon lost two games for the second consecutive day Monday afternoon, falling to Transylvania 15-2 in five innings, before dropping a 14-4 decision against Macalester in six innings. Ripon managed 17 hits in the two games combined.

In the day's first game, Transylvania (1-2) scored early and often, plating three runs in the first inning and two more on a single by Shelbi Poehlein. Six more runs crossed the plate on five Transylvania hits in the third, followed by four more runs in the fourth.

Ripon (0-4) finally got on the board in the fifth, scoring both runs on a single off the bat of Melanie Kobelt, who finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate. Ashley Parkkonen also recorded two hits, while taking the loss in the circle.

Transylvania was led by Shelby Gambrell and Krista DeBurger, who each recorded three hits, while combining for four RBI and four runs scored. Meg Liter earned the win, allowing four hits in three innings, while striking out two batters.

Things didn't get much easier for the Red Hawks in the nightcap, as Macalester (4-4) also scored early and often, including a three-spot in the top of the first. Ripon got one of those runs back in the bottom of that inning on an RBI double by Kaylee Arendt, but Macalester widened the gap with a six-run third inning.

Ripon added another run in the bottom of the fifth when Tene Robinson drove in Stephanie Cartwright with a double to left center, but Macalester again answered with five runs in the sixth. The Red Hawks scored twice more in the bottom of the sixth, including an RBI single from Lexi Reetz, but it wasn't enough, as Macalester earned the six-inning victory.

Cartwright and Elizabeth Floodstrand led the Red Hawks with two hits apiece. Reetz suffered the loss, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits, while striking out three.

Macalester was led by three hits and three runs scored from G.G. Gunther. Morghan Bean recorded a game-high four RBI. Logan Tootle (2-0) earned the victory, allowing one run on one hit in three innings of work.

Ripon will try to turn things around on Tuesday when they'll face Calvin and Concordia (Wis.) at 1 and 5 p.m. ET, respectively. Both games will be played at Legends Way Field in Clermont, Fla.
