CLERMONT, Fla. - The Ripon softball team lost to McDaniel University and William Paterson University Thursday afternoon by scores of 6-0 and 4-1, respectively.
In the day's first game, McDaniel (5-7) wasted no time, scoring twice on four hits in the top of the first inning. They added one more in the second and three more on four hits in the third.
Ripon (0-8) finished the game with five hits, including a 2-for-2 performance by
Jessica Kobelt. Kobelt also pitched all seven innings, allowing five earned runs and striking out two without issuing a walk.
McDaniel was led by three hits from Carly Deichman, who was one of five players on the team to record more than one base knock. Fiona Johnson (3-3) hurled a complete game shutout, allowing just five hits and striking out four.
In Ripon's second game of the day, they again fell behind in the first inning, which saw William Paterson score two runs on two hits and one Ripon error. William Paterson added another run in the fifth, before Ripon got on the board in the top of the sixth when
Stephanie Cartwright drove in
Renee Packer with a sac fly. William Paterson added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, en route to the victory.
Ripon finished with five hits with two apiece by
Tene Robinson and
Casey O'Malley and the other coming off the bat of
Ashley Parkkonen.
Rebeccah Jones (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs on eight hits in six innings of work.
William Paterson recorded eight hits, with two apiece coming from Eleni Lutas and Kaitlyn Poretti. Gabrielle Castelli (3-0) tossed a complete game five-hitter, allowing one run and striking out five.
The Red Hawks will wrap up their Spring Trip on Friday with games against Fredonia and Plattsburgh State at 5 and 7 p.m., respectively. Both games will be played at Legends Way Field in Clermont, Fla., with the game against Fredonia offering LiveStats atÂ
