Ripon Loses Both Games of Doubleheader At Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Ripon's softball team lost both games of Sunday's doubleheader at Cornell College, falling 8-0 in six innings in game one, before dropping the second game by a score of 15-2 in five innings.

Cornell (11-11, 5-3 MWC) didn't waste much time getting on the board, taking the lead on a steal of home plate in the bottom of the first. The Rams added five runs on six hits and one Ripon error in the third inning, while ending the game with two runs on three more hits in the sixth.

Ripon (0-16, 0-4 MWC) finished the game with three hits, coming from Tene Robinson, Andie Winters and Melanie Kobelt. Lexi Reetz (0-6) suffered the loss, striking out three batters in five innings.

Cornell totaled 11 hits, while stealing seven bases in the game.

In the day's second game, Cornell scored just as many runs in the first inning as they did in the entire first game. Ripon got two of those runs back in the top of the second on one RBI apiece from Winters and Haylea Hoskins. Cornell then put the game out of reach with six more runs on six hits in the bottom of the second.

Ripon's seven hits in game two came from seven different players, while Cornell finished with 14 base knocks.

The Red Hawks will try to bounce back on Tuesday when they'll host St. Norbert College. That doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m. at Tracy Field in Ripon with LiveStats available at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
