Carroll Wins Pair of Games Against Red Hawks

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Ripon lost both games of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon against Carroll University, dropping the first game in a nail-biter, 2-1, before losing the nightcap 9-0 in five innings.

In the day's first game, Carroll (18-12, 9-5 MWC) got on the board in the third inning on an error by Ripon (2-26, 2-10 MWC) and doubled that lead with a run in the fourth on an RBI single. The Red Hawks tried their best to pull the upset, scoring a run in the top of the seventh on a two-out RBI double off the bat of Stephanie Cartwright, but the next batter was retired to end the game.

Ripon finished with more hits than Carroll, with two of their five hits coming from Cartwright. Lexi Reetz (1-10) suffered the hard-luck loss, as she did not allow an earned run, while giving up just three hits and recording a career-high nine strikeouts in a six-inning complete game.

The second game of the day wasn't nearly as close, as Carroll jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning of play. The Pioneers added two more in the second and three more in the third to cap the scoring.

Ripon's lone hit came from Reetz, who doubled with two outs in the third. Jessica Kobelt (0-5) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on seven hits and striking out one in three innings of work.

The Red Hawks will be back at it on Sunday when they'll travel to Beloit College. That doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. in Beloit, Wis. with LiveStats available at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/beloit/.
