RIPON, Wis. - For the second consecutive year, the Ripon College Men's Soccer team opened the season with a victory in front of their home crowd at Prairie Field. The Red Hawks defeated Moody Bible Institute 3-0 Thursday afternoon, putting the game on ice with two second half goals.
Sophomore
Paul Karls, who scored three goals in last year's season opener, scored two in this year's first game. His first came in the 21st minute on a beautiful spin move around the defender, kicking the ball past Moody Bible's Goal Keeper into the bottom right part of the net. He was assisted by
Cameron Greene and
Nick Thillman.
Karls doubled Ripon's lead in the 61st minute on an assist from
Grant Grywalsky. Nearly five minutes later, Greene got into the scoring action with his first goal of the year, assisted by Karls, who started the play with a free kick.
Ripon Sophomore Goal Keeper
Jimmy Amedeo recorded his fifth career shutout, making five saves, while playing the entire game. His counterpart, Kenny McBride, also played all 90 minutes, saving four shots.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Saturday when they'll host Maranatha Baptist. That game will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Prairie Field in Ripon.
