RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's women's soccer team battled the elements, as well as Illinois College, Saturday afternoon, earning a rain-soaked 3-0 victory to move into a third-place tie in the Midwest Conference standings. The Red Hawks dominated the contest from the outset, outshooting Illinois College 26-5, including 16-3 in the first half.
Ripon (9-3-0, 3-2-0 MWC) broke a scoreless tie in the eighth minute when
Paige Pierce netted her ninth goal of the season on an assist from
Meghan McCarthy. Pierce added her second goal of the game 22 minutes later on an assist from
Brianna Schnell, giving Pierce her 21st career goal, which is tied for 10th in program history.
After taking a 2-0 lead into halftime, Ripon continued to control the tempo in the second half.
Maeve Kim tacked on an insurance goal in the game's final minutes, marking her fifth goal of the season, on an assist from
Cassidy Blaney.
"I'm extremely pleased with today's performance," Head Coach
Greg Ruark said. "From the opening whistle, IÂ thought we played with confidence, got the ball off our feet, and found the open teammate."
Miye Aoki-Kramer played all 90 minutes in goal for the Red Hawks, making four saves, and recording her second shutout of the season and sixth of her career. Illinois College (3-12, 1-4 MWC) saw Goal Keeper Charlotte Crofton save 14 shots, while playing all 90 minutes.
